Grabbing The Rings Of LifeWhile reading one of Sylvia Brown's books I came across the words, "I grabbed every ring I could ..." The phrase was in reference to the idea that we are here in this physical life to experience. It is also meant to encourage us to grab the rings of life's experiences and to be free of the fear of grabbing an experience ring. The words instantly caused a memory trigger for me. I have many fond memories of when I was a small boy, of our family jumping (that would be just me) into the car and driving to Spokane, WA where I would get to play with my cousins and visit my grandparents. Well, Spokane at one time had an amusement park called the Natatorium Park which was eventually made into a trailer park in 1968. But during those many childhood vacations to Spokane, at least one afternoon at "The Nat" with my cousins always took place. It turns out The Nat had this really cool 1909 Looff Carousel and riding it was an experience. It had rides that were three maybe four deep and we would all try to get an outside horse. As the horses would go up, down, and around, there was a place where one could grab steel rings about the size of a silver dollar. On the other side of the carousel you would throw your ring at a big painting of a clown with the goal of trying to get your ring into the clown's mouth. Once in a great while you would get a brass ring instead of steel and that was worth a free ride. But isn't that the way life is? Grab an experience ring and go with it. Every once in a while we get a golden one that is extra special. Reading the phrase brought me a magic moment. I was happy to learn that the carousel was moved to Spokane's Riverfront Park and restored. I hope they still have the rings! References:
